If you are on maternity leave and plan on going back to work it is a good idea to send your baby announcement to your co workers and supervisor. You should include your expected return to work date on the baby announcements you send to your work place. Once you have your baby the tendency will be for you to want to call everyone up and tell them about it. Soon reality will sink in and you are going to understand that there is no way you have the time to call everyone. Formal baby announcements have been used for many years for that very reason.
