A red check engine light means that you already have a pretty serious situation to deal with, and you certainly don't want to make things any worse by becoming involved in a pile up! Most yellow check engine light warnings result from a problem with the electrical components of your car engine. This will cause the system to send a warning signal to the power train control module or PCM, and this is manifested as an amber check engine light. Most of these warnings occur as a result of a malfunction in an emissions component, and you may not even be aware that there is anything wrong with your car. Of course an amber check engine light is still a serious issue to deal with, and it will still require immediate attention.
